Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. I do play golf. It’s just that I’m averaging about once every 2.5 years. I consider my “handicap” when I play each time the very fact that I’m on the course. :) It’s just not pretty.

Yesterday my parents call and my mom wants to take Kim and the kids to the zoo in Columbia while my dad and I go play some golf. Sounds like a fun day so they all take off, and my dad and I head off to our high class, high dollar golf course: Jim and Lily’s in Jackson, SC. It’s a redneck golfers paradise. You can play and ride 18 for about $15.00. The fairways are a lovely mixture of dirt, sand, weeds and the occasional plug of grass. We decided that we would be good for 9 holes so that’s what we played.

My dad has macular degeneration so his eyesight is not the best. So, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, we played 9 holes, and my dad did really good. I would have to help him spot where his ball went, but he drove the ball well and putted well. In the end, his score was 58. I did beat him…..by only 7 strokes. Like I said, I probably shouldn’t golf. But, we had a great time, the weather was perfect…it was a good day :)

I’m sitting at home doing some work and watching the Masters Par 3 tournament. Two guys commentating. It’s the first time that the par 3 has been on tv, and it is on ESPN. And they too have a british commentator. It all began with the now retired commentator (can’t think of his name) who always called the Masters tournament. Now everyone who covers golf HAS to have a british chap calling the action. You know what I’d love to see for just one day…on ESPN during the par 3, I would love to have….Dickie V call the action: “BIG T TIGER WOODS IS ON THE PROWL, BABY!!!” That would be fun…just for kicks and giggles :)

I just want to say that I’m glad that Kansas beat UNC. I was surprised that they actually pulled it out. They staved off a mid game UNC run and defeated them soundly in the end. Kansas just had too much size and Hansbrough just couldn’t deal with their big men down low. Kansas suffered when they moved away from the low post but went back to it in the end. Hansbrough is a great player, but the boy mugs everybody and never gets called, yet he always gets the call including several flops tonight that were great acting jobs. He’s like the Vlade Divac of the NCAA. :) Anyway, kudos to UNC on a great year, and it should be a great matchup on Monday with Memphis. Memphis is fast, tough and big.

I think a couple of UNC fans will need some love as they will be pretty down. Like this guy, and this guy :)

Bar none, fall is my favorite time of the year. Football, cooler temps after a brutal summer heat, the fair, thanksgiving and yes, scary movies around Halloween ( really do like scary movies…not gore ones, but I keep the original Halloween movie on my Tivo year round). That said, my second favorite time of the year is the spring about a week or two before the Masters golf tournament begins.

Everything is beginning to bloom, it is still a little cool but nice enough to get out, Holy Week including Easter happens, spring break, spring football practice, the Georgia G-Day game and the Masters. It is a really cool time to live where we do. You can sense the build up and the excitement to the Masters even a month out. I’m not a golfer. I like to get out on the course, but 1. I don’t have time 2. when I play golf, little children run and hide, screaming all the way. I hate even more to watch golf on TV except….when the Masters comes to town. If I get a pass, I’ll go as often as I can. If I can’t, I’ll be glued to the tv…even in the early rounds.

You can keep up with the results and check out past footage at the Masters official site:

Yeah, that just happened. What an unbelievable run. A team that won 3 regular season games against SEC opponents won 4 straight in the tournament, including 2 in one day. With the amount of talent we lost this year, to win the tournament. Just unreal! How Bout Them DAWGS!!

I grew up watching Herschel and the dawgs. I remember watching bowl games in my room on my 10″ Black and White TV with rabbit ears. Now we had color tv’s, but for a middle class kid growing up in the early 80’s, it was something else. Coach Mark Richt has really taken UGA football and restored the glory to it that was gone after Vince Dooley retired, during the Coach Goff/Donnan years. Here’s a video of Herschel and Knowshon Moreno, starting Tailback for UGA.

….UGA brings the smackdown on UH 41-10 in the sugar bowl. This quote by UH QB Colt Brennan pretty much sums it up:

“It seemed like it was crazy,” Brennan said. “I don’t remember what I saw. I remember getting hit a lot.”

Well, except for studying over my notes some, one more mental walkthrough and some prayer, my sermon prep is pretty much done. Just spending the day at the house chillin. It’s cold and rainy. Kids are playing with some of their new toys they got for Christmas and Kim is relaxing….life is good :)

Looking forward to some bowl games, some fireworks and hopefully watching the DAWGS laying the smackdown on Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Wow, what a game in Athens. The whole stadium was in a “blackout”. Just a sea of black. My brother, Steve, and I along with a few other friends from Aiken were on the home side on the 45 yard line…..some of the best seats for one of the best games. There were rumors all week that the UGA players would wear black jerseys for the Auburn game. When the team captains came out in red, I turned to Steve and said, “Well, I guess we’re wearing red tonight.” A little disappointed, but hey, I’d be yelling my head off either way. The teams runs out of the locker room wearing…wait for it…..BLACK JERSEYS! Sanford Stadium went completely nuts, I’m talking off the charts loud. Auburn didn’t have a chance. 45 points later, we had defeated the war-eagle-tiger-plainsmen-barners. Weather was perfect, too. Was cool and clear.
