AJ Mind Dump

Been a week or so since my last mind dump so here’s the latest in the world of Jones.

  • Kim and I had a chance to get away last weekend to North Georgia.  It was just the two of us.  Had a great time doing a whole lot of nothing.  Awesome!
  • We took the opportunity to worship on Sunday morning at Oak Leaf Church in Cartersville, GA.  They meet in a movie theater and are blowing it up!  They are already at 4 services.  Pretty interesting in that they stagger worship times which allows them to get 4 services in.  They are currently renovating an old bar called The House of Rock and will be moving there once their renovations are complete.  Love seeing how churches doing Sunday morning in portable settings.  OLC is doing it with much excellence.
  • We’re taking the kids to Disney in April.  I think Kim and I are about as geeked up about it as they are.  We’re in the process of planning out our plan of attack for the parks.  Probably going to spend a couple of days at the Magic Kingdom.  Still considering Universal Studios.
  • Oh, and by the way, that sucking noise you hear….is our money going down the drain as we pay for the tickets.  I will never complain about the cost to go to Six Flags or Carowinds again :)
  • 40 Days of Blogging has been a lot of fun.  40 Days is up next Tuesday, but my plan of attack from here on out is at least one post per day.
  • NCAA Bball tournament is here, and I love it!  Next to college bowl season, it’s probably my favorite sports-times of the year.  Now if only the DAWGS can get a decent new coach and return to it.  We’ll see.
  • Looks like the On the Ridge campus will be launching sometime around May, but there’s just no definite date as of yet.  Still ALOT to be done as we retrofit/renovate the building.  Our lighting and media vendors are on hold until the electrical happens.
  • Speaking of multi site, finally heard back from the guy we’re hoping to give us the solution for live streaming.  We’ll see how that goes.
  • Had another fun week in medical field.  Yet another “abscess” visit to the ER and then to my surgeon to have it dealt with.  ER is a very interesting place..not fun, but interesting.  I think I’ve spend a total of 6 hours just waiting over the past two days.  Doing much better now.  Just discovering that I’m allergic to some antibiotics…fun :)
  • Don’t know if I’ve shared the linkage to one of my closest friends, but Brent Cline is now blogging.
  • That’s about it for now….peace.

Just a few random thoughts and updates from the life and mind of Jones:

  • Been a good week.  Finally started feeling like myself in the last few days.  Hoping for a much healthier spring.
  • Speaking of spring, excited about spring practice starting up for the DAWGS.  I’m still shocked that we were able to win 10 games in spite of how bad we played at times, especially on defense.  Spring ball can give you an idea of who may be the next player to breakout.
  • Can’t wait to take the kids to Disney World in about a month.  It will be their first time.  We’re working on getting everything in order for it right now.
  • Speaking of traveling, excited about heading to UNLEASH at Newspring this week.  Then, Kim and I are heading to North Georgia for a quick weekend getaway.  Looking forward to it.
  • Speaking of football, GATORS WEAR JEAN SHORTS.
  • This story is why we have security at CCC.  I am convinced that EVERY church should have solid, well thought out security, not just a guy named Bubba that looks really mean.  This could happen to any church, anywhere.  I use to think that guys who had large churches were pompous when they had security around them.  That changed several years ago.  As your church grows, so do the number of crazy people that want a piece of you.  At CCC, the security is packing heat for good reasons.
  • Was sitting in church this morning, and I looked over and there was a lady sitting there crocheting during the service, listening to the message…..that’s a first!  ….crocheting…during church….really?
  • Been loving this weather this weekend.
  • Ready to get back into my routines.  Since I’ve had this stuff going on with the staph infection, it has totally thrown everything off in my schedule.  Ready to get back into working out more regularly.  During the last week, my workout has consisted of hitting home runs on Wii sports.  Better than nothing, but not quite what I need :)
  • Love my wife…she’s my best friend and she’s hot
  • I’ve had a ton of people over the past week that have been inquiring about doing some website work for them.  I’m grateful, but I’m wondering what has caused it to skyrocket all the sudden, especially in this economy.
  • Going to enjoy the day.  peace.

After a brief hiatus, I’ve picked up in Acts again in my time in the Word.  I’ve been trying to really camp out more in this book.  I’m not sure why, but Acts is one of those books that I tend to not read as much as others.  I know that sounds bad, but it’s true.  I’ve been blown away by the truth I’ve been discovering as I prayerfully read through it.  One of the guys that has really stood out to me is Stephen.  Whenever I hear his name, automatically I think “Okay, he was the first martyr”, and it usually ends right about there.  Too often I’ve scanned over him and have missed what he was made of.  Here are some of the phrases from Acts 6 and 7 that described this guy:

“full of the Spirit and wisdom”, “a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit”, “a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.”, “they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.”

I read those phrases and the thought hit me “This is a man that knew Jesus and Jesus knew him.”  The challenge to me is this question: What am I known for? Could any of those things be said about my life?  Am I known more for what I’m for, what I’m against, or am I known more for the Spirit of God, His grace and fullness in me?  That’s my prayer: God, make me the kind of man that is full of You.

Been quite a week.  This may be short as I’m having to type this while lying down on my bed.  Just wanted to give a quick update on me/us for those that have been asking/praying:

  • Started this past week with a fever and a pretty nasty boil/infection.  Had it treated by a surgeon in an in-office procedure and felt like it was doing well.
  • Went back on Friday for a routine check up to get the packing changed and my doctor just wasn’t satisfied with how it was healing.  So, Friday afternoon around 3PM I was admitted to Aiken Regional for outpatient surgery so they could go back in and remove any remaining infection.  It was diagnosed as a staph infection called MRSA.  Apparently it is a pretty nasty infection.
  • I’m on some good antibiotics and vicodin for pain as needed.
  • My wife is a champ. She has taken care of me very well.  I’m blessed to have her.
  • I’m hoping to get back on my feet by Wed/Thursday.  Got a lot of work to do.  Right now it’s hard to sit up with where the incision is located.
  • Had to miss all of C3 this past week.  Danny and Kenny both said it went really well, though.  Maybe next year.
  • Appreciate all the prayers, phone calls, visits and messages.  All of them really helped.
  • This whole ordeal threw off my 40 Days of Blogging by a few days.  As I can, I hope to get that back on track.
  • That’s all for now.  Peace.

Here’s the latest in the life of Jones:

  • been working through the book of Acts in my time with God.  I’m amazed by the faith and raw trust that the early church had in Jesus.  Has been challenging me on a lot of levels.
  • As a sports fan, this time of the year is my second favorite next to college football season.  Love watching college basketball and the tournament.
  • Speaking of college basketball, UGA let Dennis Felton go as coach and is now in the coaching search business.  I really hope that the Dawgs can find a coach that can bring our program up to the next level.  The state of Georgia has a TON of bball talent that usually ends up out of state or at Tech.  Need to close the borders on that.
  • Next week I’m headed out to C3 in Dallas.  Really looking forward to that.  I’ll be doing some live blogging of the general sessions so be sure to check back.  Need some refreshing and looking forward to get away and hopefully hear from God on some things.
  • Speaking of conferences, some of our staff and volunteers from CCC are headed to UNLEASH at Newspring again in March.  This is a great one day conference, and I am stoked that Kim is going with me this year.
  • Had Demon Hunter’s LIVE cd spinnin the last few weeks and am loving it.  Looking forward to U2’s new album coming out next month.
  • Got a lot of new web projects on the table right now.  Thankful for them in this economy.
  • Heading to Snowshoe with the high schoolers in a few weeks.  Should be some good times.  Love snowshoe.
  • Working through the video over IP for CCC’s multi-site campuses.  Video over IP, if you don’t know, is kinda like voice over IP (like Vonage).  Except, it’s video instead of voice.  I think we’re getting close to finding the solution we want.  Once in place, it will give us the ability to do live messages to all of our campuses, plus some very cool interaction possibilities.  Getting some pricing for the final piece of the puzzle this week.
  • That’s about all for now. l8r
