Friday night, Kim, Hannah and I are heading down the road to see Prince Caspian. We’re driving past a more rural part of town and we come up behind a black Mitsubishi Galant. So, as we’re going down the road, I see some brown hair out the right side of the window…like someone is sticking part of their hair out. No big deal….keep talking to Kim. A little later I notice that it looks like an animal in the back and I’m assuming it is one of those big dogs with the really long, flowing hair. A few seconds later, the animal sticks its head out a little more. I looked over at Kim and said, “I might be crazy, but I think there is a horse in the back of that car.” We’re trying to look and we’re both thinking there is no way. Well, the car turns off so that the window turns toward our car and sure enough, it was a horse. It stuck its head way out so that there was no mistaking it. These people were riding down the road with a miniature horse in the back of a four door sedan. I’m not kidding. That’s got sermon illustration written all over it.

Hannah asks, “Daddy, why would they do that?” My response, without skipping a beat: “Baby, because they’re redneck.” LOL oohhhh man. Only in South Carolina :)

I wanted to say personally how thankful I am to those who serve in the military, to those veterans who have served and ultimately those who gave their very lives in service to this country. No matter what anyone tells you, this is STILL the greatest nation in the world, and I count it a huge blessing to live here. Thanks to all that served.

Wanna watch YouTube vids that are better quality? Huh? Well, do you? :) Here’s a little trick.

First, choose your video, let’s say the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS76rkX8T-k&NR=1

Now, after the video begins playing, pause it. Next type in the following out beside the web address of the video in the URL window: &fmt=18

The url should now read the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS76rkX8T-k&NR=1&fmt=18

Go to this new address and you will see a higher quality of this video. Adding “&fmt=18″ (without the quotes) should affect many videos out there. It is basically calling up a higher quality (and different format…I think mp4) video.

Been a busy few weeks here on the 4Thought Media front. I’ve been developing some new resources including a salute to our fallen heroes on Memorial Day. It is called To Those Who Served. You can check it out here.

The summer of blockbuster continues. Up next is the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Kim and I took Hannah to see this movie last night. Can I just say that Movies are crazy expensive. Anyway, we really enjoyed it. I thought that the acting was very good in this flick. The four main characters (Peter, Susan, Edmond & Lucy) were the same as the first movie and I thought they have matured as actors, not to mention the obvious growing up part. There are tons of good truths communicated in this movie, too. The action/battle scenes were done well while not showing a lot of blood and gore. The special effects for the movie were done by the same folks that did Lord of the Rings (WETA workshop) so you know they are excellent. Overall, I would definitely give this movie an A, and we decided we will definitely buy this one when it comes out on DVD. There are no extra scenes after the credits so don’t stick around unless you really want to. Also, I would recommend seeing the first film in the Narnia series before going and seeing this one. Otherwise you may be lost. It’s a good rent, too.

just got word tonight that his youngest daughter (5 year old) was accidentally killed while one of his sons was backing out of the driveway in an SUV. Please pray for them during this time. Here’s a link to the story:

Okay so I was ticked when one of my two rockers was voted off of American Idol (Carly) but the other rocker, David Cook brought it home. Good for him :)

Taking my lead from Grandma Bomar (another story for another time..I’ll share it later), I’m reading through the Bible front to back. I’ve done this a few times in my life, and whenever I have before, I have gleaned so much from those times. So many principles, truths, convictions, etc. All the while, I’m praying Grandma Bomar’s prayer: “Lord, I’m not going to move from this chapter until You show me something. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Here are a few items from this morning that stuck out (Monday):

  • Gen 13: 1- 11 - Sometimes, possibly most of the time, the easier choice is not always God’s way. In fact in my own life the opposite has been true so often. Lot chose the easy route, the place that “looked” real good.
  • Gen 13:12-18 - If you pitch your tent near trouble you’re bound to get into it. Lot actually didn’t pitch his tents IN Sodom…but near it. Still it ended up costing him his wife, his livelihood and almost his whole life.

this past weekend Spencer and I got to hang out…..just the dudes. Kim and Hannah were at a mother/daughter retreat with Cedar Creek. We had a lot of fun hanging out. Our days were filled with totally guy stuff. All the things that a boy should experience: riding in a truck, going to Lowe’s, working out in the yard, taking a pile of junk to the dump, getting some slushies from Sonic, etc….Good Times.

Couple of things from the weekend:

  • my wife is awesome…let me just say that. As I was doing some of the things that she normally takes care of, I was thinking in my mind how blessed I am. Not saying that b/c I didn’t like what I was doing. Just makes you appreciate someone more when you get to walk in their shoes, you know :)
  • I love my boy…I really do. He’s so much fun to be around. He says some of the funniest things sometimes. I was wearing a ballcap and we were on our way to Lowe’s. He looks around and says, “I’m a man” while flexing his arms. Then in the next sentence, he says, “Oh no, I don’t have my hat.”…because that’s what a man should be wearing after all. Too funny.
  • I could spend way too much money at Lowe’s.
  • Spencer likes the red riding lawnmower’s at Lowe’s because “Red is my favorite color!”
  • I’m amazed at what people throw away at the landfill. I got to admit, I got a little redneck-packrat while there. I saw a few things there that I actually considered throwing in the back. I saw two minibikes that looked in good condition and I was this close to snagging em’….seriously…no really…..
  • Here’s our view from the truck below
