I grew up watching Herschel and the dawgs. I remember watching bowl games in my room on my 10″ Black and White TV with rabbit ears. Now we had color tv’s, but for a middle class kid growing up in the early 80’s, it was something else. Coach Mark Richt has really taken UGA football and restored the glory to it that was gone after Vince Dooley retired, during the Coach Goff/Donnan years. Here’s a video of Herschel and Knowshon Moreno, starting Tailback for UGA.
Man, you’ve got to check out this post about Pete on Chris Elrod’s blog. I was pumping my fist and hollerin’ when I read it….Pete knows Jesus.
In honor of my recent travels and in honor of the fine hotels I’ve been staying at, I salute you…hotel, hotel, yo sosweet
the multi-site practicum has been good so far. Had to step out for bit b/c of a headache. Chicago is pretty cool. Started snowing yesterday, and last night it snowed 5 to 6 inches. It is still coming down, too. It’s snowing sideways right now. I love it! Our flight out is tomorrow at 2:00 so hopefully we’ll be able to make it out okay. If not, we’ll be enjoying the snow some more in chicago
Okay, I’m looking out the window and the wind is whipping the snow around and it is coming down in big fat flakes. Here are some photos:
The “cruiser” after the first snowfall

The view from my hotel room…just majestic

4 to 6 inches of snowfall and more on the way

In case you missed any of the C3 posts from last week, you can click on the leadership category on the side or just hit the link below:
Here in Chicago until Wednesday and it looks like we’re about to see some serious snow. This isn’t like SC when they say “winter storm warning”. Do the link:
Apparently they’re having a heat wave in Chicago just in time for us to arrive. High’s are around 32 today so we’re breaking out shorts as you can imagine. Earlier last week they had some pretty nasty weather. Here’s a photo I snapped as we were leaving one of the multi-site’s today. I’ll have more notes on that later.

Arrived in chicago yesterday. Flight was pretty good on the way up from Dallas. C3 was GREAT! I’m planning on paying to bring Kim next year. It is that impactful that I would really like for us to experience it together, and I know it would minister to her as well. If you’re on staff, I would highly consider it as a conference to attend next year. I’ve got some notes from T.D. Jakes to type up from Friday night. Man, all of the speakers were great, but Bishop Jakes seriously BROUGHT IT! I’ve got the DVD ordered so I’ll be sharing it with the creekers when it comes.
We’re headed to a multi-site of Community Christian Church in Naperville this morning. Check it out here.
More later!
Man, what a night. Was a very powerful service that ended up with TD Jakes praying over and with the preacher’s wives….man, it was awesome!
Here are my notes:

Genesis 37:1-5, 18-24
“God’s Got You Covered”
Story of Joseph in the Old Testament
- If you can’t dream in the midst of adversity, it is not a dream from God
- You are favored by God
- He already has things worked out in your life
- In the OT, God used people’s lives and stories to preach a sermon
- Joseph is a “type” of Christ meaning that he was an OT shadow of Jesus Christ…there are parallels to he and Jesus
- He is just a shadow, though, as he is not the Christ
- There is only a shadow when there is light
Joseph was like Jesus in the following ways:
- Jos. was born of a woman’s womb that was closed up
- Jos. was the beloved son of his father, Jacob, and his father openly displayed it with a coat of many colors (NT: “this is my beloved son…”)
- Jos. was openly hated by his brethren
- Jos. brothers sold him for silver
- Jos. was put down in the pit
- Jos. was extended to the gentile nation (egypt); through Paul, Jesus was extended to the gentiles
- Jos. walked in the divine favor of God
- The favor of God isn’t fair
- Jacob loved all of his sons but he had a special relationship with Joseph
- Coat of many colors = given special distinction
- If the favor of God is on your life, God will bless you to where people can’t help but notice (coat of many colors)
- If youare a leader and only have a vision for people that are like you, then your vision is way too small
- Your God is bigger than your background
- DON’T LET PEOPLE PUT A PERIOD WHERE GOD PUT A COMMA
- doesn’t matter how old you are or where you are in life, don’t let people define your destiny and purpose
- You don’t began to understand who Joseph is when he is in the pit or in prison, but later on.
- God took an inmate and made him a prince of Egypt
- Real character is not revealed in the pit but rather when you’re in power - when you “don’t need anyone”
- God blesses you to bless other people - even people who betray you
- there is a correlation b/w trust and favor
In your life, you will have three types of people around you, especially as a church leader:
- Confidants - won’t be as many in life. People that are few and far between. You can be transparent with them. They got your back. If you have 2 or 3 in your life, then you are a blessed person
- Constituents - they are not for you but are for what you are for. They have similar vision and goals. They are not for you. Don’t make constituents into confidants. When someone comes along that can get them where they want to go, they will leave you.
- Comrades - not for you, not for what you are for. They are against what you are against. They are never for you.

Luke 24:13-35
The Order of the Breaking of Bread
• The disciples and followers were shocked when Jesus went to the cross vs establishing the kingdom on earth
• If you’re not experiencing conflict, then you’re not a leader, you’re a follower
• It’s odd that those that said that they knew Christ best didn’t recognize Him when He showed up
• Jesus doesn’t show up in the religious trappings that we think he should
• When God does something in your church that goes against status quo, expect controversy
• The disciples on the road did what we do…..they try to teach Jesus about Jesus
• How could they not recognize His voice because everyone else did
• They should have recognized His voice, His face, His mastery of the revelation of God’s plan through the prophets over a 7 mile stretch
• The beginning of wisdom for a true leader is to know that you don’t know as much as you think you do..if you can lead and still learn then God will show us more than we can deal with
• Still they said to abide with us
• You can’t lead people that are not thirsty..Jesus acted like He was leaving and they asked him to stay on
• You can’t lead until you are going into a dimension of ministry that you wouldn’t dare go it alone and plead to ask Him “Don’t leave me, Lord”
• So Jesus came in and sat down at the table with them
• He took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to them
• And SUDDENLY, their eyes were open and they saw Him for who He is
• People perceive Jesus in the simple things
• It wasn’t important what He ate, it was HOW he ate it
• He took it, he blessed it, he broke it and gave it to them…just like the night of the Passover…the same thing
• Also, when the 5000 were there…he took it, he blessed, broke it, gave it to them
• There’s something about that…not in what He ate, but in the order He did it in
• It’s the same process throughout scripture, he took it, He blessed them, broke them, gave them to be a blessing to others….even with Christ
• It’s the same process with us
• It takes us years to figure out that the breaking stage is the blessing stage for it is there that we learn to know Him and trust Him
• He never gives to the people any bread that hasn’t been broken
• Too often, we give the mic, the leadership and the mantle to people who have never been broken
